Personally, I don’t think promo card is as impressive as the one I did for The Collective’s Shorts show because rather than create the card around a separate photo shoot, I used a photo from last year’s concert. …speaking of last year’s concert, below is a gallery of select photos from last year’s show. Here’s the press release: The Collective, named Baltimore’s Best Dance Company for 2008 and 2009 by the CityPaper, will present a concert of short works designed to make the most impact in the shortest amount of time possible. SHORTS is a collection of twelve dances, ranging in length from two to five minutes, used to abstract everyday objects and situations into movement. Under the direction of Jessica Fultz and Sonia Synkowksi, The Collective houses professional dancers and choreographers from the Baltimore region who gather to create and produce new work. SHORTS will feature choreography by Jessica Fultz, Adrienne Lathanishen, Camille Lattimore, Cait Moler, Lynne Price, Sonia Synkowski, Melissa Talleda, Emily Tankersley, and Lauren Withhart with original musical compositions by Keith Kramer and Mark Williams.

which winter performance? THIS one.

These are, believe it or not, outtakes. I’m not showing my “newspaper edit” yet because the article is acting as a preview for the U.S. Air Guitar National Championships in DC.

And, frankly, some of these images just are a little too gratuitously PG-13 for our little community newspaper.

The story is slated to run August 6th in the Howard County Times’s Go! section (my birthday), for the August 7th performance at the 9:30 Club.

Apparently, the 2009 DC regionals was one of the craziest spectacles in U.S. Air Guitar History. Two face-melters, Chicago-based SANJAR THE DESTROYER (Chris Paxton), above, and THE SHRED (Lance Kasten), from Pasadena, Maryland, click the link below, left the gimmicks at home and just ruined they synapse responses of the sold-out (or close to sold out) 9:30 Club Crowd. Their performances were so nose-to-nose, the judges declared them both victors. I have to be honest, I got goosebumps watching Sanjar perform.

An audience member with a sound-sensitive t-shirt was called to the stage in an attempt to help the judges make their decision based on audience cheers.

Both Sanjar and The Shred created equally deafening responses from the audience.

here’s the story: During last year’s regional championships, The Shred rocked so hard he ended up breaking his foot. The health-care professional who helped fix his foot showed up to the show and, on stage, she got a big ol’, wet, sloppy The Shred kiss.

The crowd started yelling “STD! STD! STD! STD!” (which stands for SANJAR THE DESTROYER).

To close out the evening members of the crowd rushed the 9:30 Club stage and a massive Air Guitar jam session ensued.
