I shot the first day of Maryland Deathfest X yesterday!
FINALLY!
The first Deathfest I could’ve gone to was back in 2005. I really can’t believe it took me this long to go.
I used to host the metal show in college & I played drums in a hardcore band back then, too.
I love metal! And I know some of you might find this hard to believe, but metalheads are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. The bands are great, but I find Deathfest-goers fascinating.
In the pit, if someone gets knocked over, fellow moshers flock to pick em up.
Metal is music for the disenfranchised. But a metal fest gives these cultural outliers a commonality. People were in such great moods. I’ve never seen so many people dressed in black smiling so much.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s definitely a few jerks at metal shows, but by and large, it’s a super-nice group of people.
Also, thanks to J.M. Giordano. …for the beer.

So much fun in these frames. Nice work, Matt! Closer, followed by beer dripping all over face, are my favorites.
