25th Annual D.C. High Heel Drag Queen Race

Dozens of drag queens raced down 17th Street, between P and S Streets NW near DuPont Circle Tuesday October 25th, 2011.

The race is 25 years old! How’s that for stick-to-it-ive-ness?

While you’re looking through the photos, I want y’all to play a game. It’s kinda like “Where’s Waldo,” but we’re gonna call it “Where’s Rachel Mummey?” 

Rachel so graciously offered to follow me around with my speedlight and throw light on situations. I’ll admit, it was weird for me relegating a super-talented National Geographic intern to the role of light holder — especially on her second to last day at Nat Geo. …but she had a blast! 

And besides she was tired of standing with the crowd. She left her gear at home, so I guess my needs gave her a reason to get on the other side of the tape.

By the way, if any of you get a chance to meet Rachel, she’s a class act! Nice, super-smart, and, obviously, a talented shooter.

Speaking of talented shooters: Also accompanying our little group was Weird Sport Shooter, Sol Neelman and Sara Lewkowicz. It was a fun night, for sure! …and a black & white image for good measure.
