River Hill senior forward Davis Ancona drill his third dunk on Hammond of the night over Hammond’s James Turner (24). River Hill snapped guest Hammond’s 14-game winning streak Thursday, February 18, 2010, beating them 43-37. Both teams are now tied for first.
Here are a few shots from the River Hill vs. Hammond high school boys bball game I shot last night for the Patuxent Publishing Co. paper, The Howard County Times.
If you’ve been following the blog, you know I rarely see dunks at the high school games i cover. But last night I got to see THREE!!!

Six of River Hill senior forward Davis Ancona’s eight points against Hammond were dunks. Here’s the first one.

celebrate!

Here’s number two.

Number three. I know. I know. I know. I already showed it, but I like his bravado in this one. The other shot fit more into the conventions of a “sports action photo”: ball, face, opponent.
Not that this one doesn’t have all those, but the other elements were more immediate. I’d love to hear your opinions. Is this shot better than the other one? if so, why?
you guys are great!
The top one really works for me. It’s got it all – like you mentioned – but it also has the humor of the extra balls on the wall. My first reaction was to laugh out loud.
Plus, I think Davis looks as surprised as anything in the top photo.
Thanks Ryan. I always wonder if a flash of doubt go through their minds right before making contact. ….because, really, how embarrassing would it be if they totally failed?
