Chesapeake Roller Derby, governed by OSRD (old school roller derby) rules, will call the Danele Shipley Memorial Arena — located at the Carroll County Ag. Center in Westminster — home. …err, pirate ship?
So far, the CRD’s only derby team is called The Mutiny. I have no idea if they plan to expand into more teams, like their more dramatic, all-female cousins, Charm City Roller Girls.
I’m shooting their first bout later today! Don’t be jealous…

China Maiden (Jeannie Graham), is a Charm City Roller Girl ex-patriot. While she loved playing for the Junkyard Dolls, the built in drama, a selling point for some, was becoming too much for her. So, she jumped ship, so to speak, to the new league.

The shadow of Chesapeake Roller Derby Club member Molly Wanna CrackHer (Molly Moores, from Towson) casts over the The Shipley Arena’s ridged concrete surface where at the the new co-ed team will practice and bout for their home games. Aparently, it’s hell on skates. The team’s long-term goal is to pay for a portable, banked-track. The Shipley Arena is most famously used to house 4-H animal fairs.

Hmmm, it says “the built in drama, a selling point for some, was becoming too much for her.” But that sentence is a little bit more drama, isn’t there? Methinks she doth protest too much.
