Chesapeake Roller Derby members She Legs (Sharon Stahl), left, and China Maiden (Jeannie Graham), both from Jacksonville, MD, are in the region’s new co-ed roller derby league. Dressed in full pirate regalia, The Mutiny skaters are photographed after practice at the Danele Shipley Memorial Arena at the Carroll County Ag. Center in Westminster, Thursday, January 7, 2010.
Chesapeake Roller Derby, governed by OSRD (old school roller derby) rules, will call the Danele Shipley Memorial Arena — located at the Carroll County Ag. Center in Westminster — home. …err, pirate ship?
I’m shooting their first bout later today! Don’t be jealous…
I’ll post the bout photos later. So, keep checking in!
China Maiden (Jeannie Graham), is a Charm City Roller Girl ex-patriot. While she loved playing for the Junkyard Dolls, the built in drama, a selling point for some, was becoming too much for her. So, she jumped ship, so to speak, to the new league.
Chesapeake Roller Derby Club members scrimmage at the Shipley Arena, Tuesday, January 12, 2010, in preparation for their first bout January 23rd against South Jersey Derby. Doors open at 5PM. Team members are (L-R) Akilla the Hon (Kerry Koenig, from Havre de Grace), Molly Wanna CrackHer (Molly Moores, from Towson), She Legs (Sharon Stahl, from Jacksonville), an unidentifiable player next to her (too blurry), China Maiden (Jeannie Graham, from Jacksonville), and Ruth or Consequences (Erin Maloney, from Belcamp).
Acting the part, blockers, Meth Race 2000 (aka Peter Goode, from Remeington), left, and Chesapeake Roller Derby Club coach Marzipain (Brandy Tomhave, from Pigtown), exchange blows during a scrimmage Tuesday, January 12, 2010. The blue-shirt pivot, Akilla the Hon, right, (Kerry Koenig, from Havre de Grace) checks out the action.
The shadow of Chesapeake Roller Derby Club member Molly Wanna CrackHer (Molly Moores, from Towson) casts over the The Shipley Arena’s ridged concrete surface where at the the new co-ed team will practice and bout for their home games. Aparently, it’s hell on skates. The team’s long-term goal is to pay for a portable, banked-track. The Shipley Arena is most famously used to house 4-H animal fairs.
Akilla the Hon, right, (Kerry Koenig, from Havre de Grace) skates on in the wake of Meth Race 2000′s (aka Peter Goode, from Remeington) fall, middle. Steak Knife (Janell Cannady, from Towson), skates in the background during a Chesapeake Roller Derby Club scrimmage at the co-ed team’s new home rink, The Shipley Arena in Westminster Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Meth Race 2000 fell a lot during the scrimage, and would later dislocate his shoulder. Don’t worry, he popped it back into place.
China Maiden (Jeannie Graham), from Jacksonville, member of the new co-ed Chesapeake Roller Derby listens to the team’s coach during practice at the Danele Shipley Memorial Arena at the Carroll County Ag. Center in Westminster, Thursday, January 7, 2010.
