I WON!!!
…well, I placed.
…as did fellow Patuxent Publishing Co. staffer Drew Anthony Smith, three times.
This one of his won 2nd for Product Illustration.
The Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar was a ton of fun, too. I’ll post some photos soon. (I promise).
English teacher Aime Sheinhorn, from King’s Contrivance, reflected in a school bus window, enjoys the wind during an air-conditioner-less bus ride for Wilde Lake High School staff members before the start of the school year Friday, August 28, 2009. The intent is to show the school district, physically, and to helps the faculty members understand the cultural and socioeconomic stratification that makes up one of the most diverse school’s in the county.
This photo placed third in Pictorial.
I also placed second in Sports Essay with my High School Athletes of the Year series. My entry is a combination of the 10 best from the Fall and Spring seasons.
River Hill’s Michael Campanero has amassed some of the best offensive stats in Maryland High School history, with 88 career touchdowns — 29 from 2008, alone — and almost 7,500 all purpose yards. The 2008 Howard County offensive football player of the year will be attending Wake Forest as a slot receiver next year. He is photographed at Centennial Park in Ellicott City Thursday December 18, 2008.
Glenelg Country senior Ryan Kent serves a 125-135 mph serve. He will be playing for Delaware next year. Kent is photographed at the Wilde Lake Tennis Club Thursday, May 28, 2009.
River Hill senior Katie Harman won a combined 10 gold medals at the county, region and state meets this spring. She will run for James Madison University next year.
River Hill sophomore Rena Shi wins with accuracy. She won top honors in the County Championships, but a hurt right wrist held her from advancing further in State play, but not before predominately using her backhand to win the first round of state playoffs. She is photographed at River Hill High School’s tennis courts Thursday, June 11, 2009.
Atholton’s Graham Bazell set a Class 3A state record in the 3,200-meter run (9 minutes, 13.27 seconds) and a personal record in the 1,600 (4:18.44) as he won two outdoor state championships in the same season for the first time as a senior.
Double threat, Hammond junior Travis Clark throws hard on the mound and is a threat at the plate. He is photographed at the Hammond softball field (the baseball diamond was being used) Saturday, May 30, 2009.
ammond senior pitcher Stephanie Speierman pitches in the high 60′s and has used her defensive power to set the Maryland state career strikeout record. Next year she will play for Michigan, one of the top softball programs in the nation. She is photographed at Atholton Elementary School’s softball field Tuesday, May 26, 2009.
Glenelg’s Lauriann Parker leaves her four year career as the school’s all-time leading scorer in all categories with 50 goals, 42 assists, and 142 points. She led the county with 24 assists, more than double of any other player in the county and racked-up 19 goals. The 2008 field hockey player of the year is photographed at Centennial Park Sunday, December 7, 2008.
Centennial senior Audra McShane took the top spot in both the counties and regional golf tournaments in 2008 and has committed to play Division 1 golf at High Point next year. She is photographed at Hobbits Glen Golf Course Monday December 8, 2008.
Marriotts Ridge senior Phil Martinelli is the 2008 Howard County Times boys soccer player of the year. The future Towson University player is photographed at Centennial Park Friday December 12, 2008.
