The Brutality of Sports

Recently I’ve been shooting tons of sports. Sometimes the most brutal are the most interesting. Here are several shots, some recent, some from a while ago, that showcase the brutality of sports.

Still in high spirits, Hereford High School’s starting quarterback Adam DeSantis is greeted by a wall of concerned teammates while being carted off the field after suffering a concussion during a game against Milford Mills at Hereford Friday night November 4, 2005. A state patrol helicopter landed a few minutes later and flew DeSantis to shock trauma.

A supporter of Sparrows Point High School’s Travis Kolstrom is taking the 135 pounder’s loss to Dulaney High School’s Jack Leary rather hard during the 135 weight division championship match at the Baltimore County Wrestling Tournament. The meet was held at Parkville High School Saturday February 17.

Fighting through the pain of, what was called stomach problems by the line judge, Centennial’s Ryan Lissner defeated Wilde Lake’s David Nguyen 5-7 at the Wilde Lake Tennis Club Saturday morning May 12, 2007, for the County Championship title.

In the match that pulled second-seeded Lansdowne ahead of third-seeded Pikesville, Lansdowne’s 152-weight Matt Eppard, left, pinned Pikesville’s David Schectman in the final seconds of the third period. The Vikings would go on to win 35-31 during the 1A-2A dual meet regional semi-finals at Owings Mills High School Wednesday, February 11, 2009.

Loosened headgear added to the drama of Lansdowne 145-weight Marvin Smith’s 8-2 win over Pikesville’s Kion Wrigley. Second-seeded Lansdowne defeated third-seeded Lansdowne 35-31 during the 1A-2A dual meet regional semi-finals at Owings Mills High School Wednesday, February 11, 2009.

Darain Allen, from Milford Mills lost to Owings Mills’s Avi Friedman for the 2007 103 weight Baltimore County Wrestling Championship title. The meet was held at Parkville High School Saturday February 17.

A valiant attempt by Hereford junior defensive back Peter Green failed to keep a touchdown reception away from Damascus senior wide receiver Lee Hertel. lost to Damascus 20-40 at M&T Bank Stadium Thursday night December 6, 2007 during the Maryland State 3A Championships.
